MISSING GENEALOGISTS!

We're not searching for ancestors this time. Please help us find these missing genealogists! We are trying to contact all the wonderful family historians and professional genealogists who have written articles for the Missouri State Genealogical Association Quarterly Journal. Many have already generously given permissionto allow us to place Journal articles online, but we have been unable to find a current address for others. If you have a current address or email for one of these authors, please let us know. Contact mosga@mosga.org

MoSGA JOURNAL DIGITALIZATION PROJECT

Since 1981, the Missouri State Genealogical Association has published a quarterly Journal filled with information regarding Missouri genealogy. Each of the 106 issues is about 65 pages of family histories, newspaper extractions, obituaries, vital statistics, cemetery studies, data from Missouri court, land, and census records, etc.

The MoSGA Board is currently studying the feasibility of uploading a digital copy of each quarterly issue published 1981-2000 to our website in order to make this important body of Missouri genealogical information available to the world.

The MoSGA Board has been investigating the technical challenges associated with this project. We can create an exact copy and upload it onto our website as a computer file in “pdf format.” Each quarterly issue file could then be read by using Adobe Reader and would be fully searchable using the reader’s search capability.

We are still working on a system that would make ALL issues searchable in a single search effort. If you do not have an “Adobe Reader” program, it can be downloaded free of charge at www.adobe.com .

IMPORTANT NOTICE:  The MoSGA Board is actively soliciting the support of all the authors that have so generously contributed to the Journal over its long period of publication.

The Board recognizes that there may be authors who would prefer not to have their contributions uploaded onto the Association’s website. After much discussion, the Board has agreed to honor all such preference by deleting the identified articles from the scanning process.

If there are any contributors to the Journal during this 27-year period who would prefer not to have their material included in this database, please contact us by email at mosga@mosga.org or by writing us at MoSGA, PO Box 833, Columbia, Missouri 65205-0833. The preferences may relate to specified articles or the author’s entire body of work submitted for publication in the Journal. MoSGA will make every effort to honor these preferences

The Journal always seeks good articles, including Bible records, church records, family records, historical articles, educational articles (including case studies and 'how-to' articles), cemetery records, tombstone inscriptions, county records, military records, census indexes, funeral-home records, newspaper indexes, newspaper abstracts, school records (especially 1880-1900), organization records, success stories, and other records of value to Missouri genealogists.

Of special value are articles that concern data relevant to the state as a whole (for example, naturalizations by the Missouri Supreme Court) or to large segments of the State. MoSGA greatly prefers not to compete with local genealogical and historical societies for publishable materials; however, it is recognized that many of the records mentioned are highly local.

MoSGA seeks also to republish high-quality articles from the newsletters of local genealogical and historical societies that, for one reason or another, do not publish permanent literature (usually a quarterly indexed in PERSI and having an ISSN.) The Missouri State Genealogical Association Journal can provide not only permanence for compilations of data and other articles, but also wider readership of the articles, and publicity for the local societies whose articles are so re-published. It is highly unlikely that more than one article from any local society can be published in any one year.

One need not be a member of the Association, or a genealogist, to have articles published in the Journal. Non-member authors or submitters receive a copy of each issue of the Journal in which their work appears.

Submissions by e-mail are encouraged, but, if there is any question as to layout, it is usually better to submit articles on disk and to supply a paper copy. These should be sent to MoSGA Journal Editor, PO Box 833, Columbia, MO 65205-0833. email: journal@mosga.org
